Helmersstraat 173
Renewal of the origional timber foundation was combined with realising a concrete basement level under a 19th century house in the centre of Amsterdam.
The lower level is washed with light from a glass floor over the new stairs. The extra 68 square metres- added to the original 128 square metres, comprises new bedrooms, a bathroom and a playroom. We also designed the interior, including a new kitchen and pieces of joinery, essential to the design.
We successfully negotiated through the tight planning regulations – Amsterdam’ s ‘Bestemmingsplan’ - a scheme that combined a complex engineering strategy with the specific needs of the client. We supervised the whole project from the engineering of the foundations and the concrete basement – fundering en bak (with Ten Napel BV) through to the finished interior.
