Eerste Helmerstraat 112-116

This project consists of the creation of a row of entirely new basement levels below four, 19th century houses, near Vondel Park. This was also carried out with the renovation and partial rebuilding of the houses above.

Different  individual wishes, along with the various levels of connection between the back elevations and the gardens, results in a unique solution for each dwelling. Some houses have low basement patios while others have direct connection to the garden from higher back terraces.

The new basement levels become an integral part of the houses above and create new inhabitable space. Natural light cuts into the depth of each dwelling through pavement windows and transparent elevations both above and below ground level.
