Berger Barnett Architects has been selected from an invited, limited competition to complete a substantial part of an urban block in the newly developed area of Buiksloterham, in north Amsterdam. Its perforated skin creates safe outside areas for individual classrooms, at the same time this unified screen presents a substantial and articulated façade to the city beyond.   Behind this façade sits a stimulating educational environment for young children with special needs with a programme that includes a training pool, physical therapy rooms as well as specialist classrooms and a full size gym.
