DUBLIN COUNCIL HOUSING DEPARTMENT

DUBLIN COUNCIL HOUSING DEPARTMENT COMES TO AMSTERDAM

Jo Barnett organised a trip for Dublin City Council Housing Department ( DCCHD ) who made a 2 day visit to new housing projects in the  North, South, East and West of Amsterdam. A big thank you to the various people that took time to inform the group and show them the amazing range of contemporary Amsterdam housing.

We managed to drop in on the beginning of the latest  “Play The City” game at Pakhuis de Zwijger which complimented DCCHD’s in depth look at new initiatives in Amsterdam North and Circulair Buiksloterham. They returned home extremely impressed.

READ ME WRITE ME at Het Plein

As light faded on the evening of 17th November pupils staff and parents began to gather to launch the new READ ME WRITE ME Light art piece at Het Plein School.

What was going to be the first messages broadcast? Question marks circulated on the newly installed light strip that wraps the bridge, and after a collective countdown the light strip snapped into full vibrant colour and sent a rainbow of abstract swirling colours spinning around the bridge.

A series of congratulations and positive messages were then relayed live from SMS messages from those present, long with some “rapping” from pupils to text on the light strip that “wrapped“ the building…

The art work is now officially open and pupils will now be able to integrate their words, poetry and artworks onto the light art piece and send messages via SMS. As the days and nights become darker its going to be nice to see the words and colours moving over the surface of the building. Big thanks to artist Willem Hoebink who worked so hard to make this happen.
