Our Dubbel en Dwars Huis in New Leyden was one of the four houses selected to be visited in detail by ARCHITECTUUR LOKAAL on the second leg of their “Laboratorium Particulier Opdrachtgeverschap”( Laboratory of private clients commissions) series of investigating visits.

Work continues on our research into schools funded by the Stimuleringsfonds voor Architectuur. Various fact finding visits to new primary schools in Holland continue to help us formulate our new mixed funding typologies. All of this will culminate in an expert meeting this summer.

Work is almost complete on the total renovation and conversion of a house in Edam into a generous family house. The decorated old bakery shop façade has been carefully rebuilt giving it structural integrity while carefully retailing its unique eccentricities. An up graded entrance to the side of the old bakery will be the new family entrance now the bakery will no longer be serving bread.

The exhibition IK BOUW! In Nieuw Leyden closes on March 8th. Our house which features in the show through the use of photos, interviews, models and film about the process between architects and client, will also be published in Architectuur NL this spring.

The film “Tale From No Where ” by Jo Barnett - a winning finalist in the Story of a place competition by SMIBE – was shown at the MAK Centre for Art and Architecture, Los Angeles who hosted a film festival about the built environment in October 2009..

The second phase is now complete of the interior of the offices of hazazaH Film and Photography. In no time at all the company is making good use of all the extra space, the dedicated storage, and especially designed furniture. The new careful adjustments have extended the flexibility and use of the building considerably.

A workshop with the group 8 pupils in June begins the sketch design stage of our new extension to the Peetersschool. Working with the children on their ideal classroom environment, as well as look at working with greener materials was a great way to kick off the design and involve them in their new school design. The original school dates from 1885 with a now inadequate extension from the 1970s. By renewing the extension we will provide more space for a new extended programme for the school along with a better connection between old and new.

We have now received total funding support for our research proposal on schools and mixed funding after the final selection round last month. This autumn we will make the second set of research visits to schools and interviews as the ground work for developing our new mixed funding typologies.
We will investigate and analyse projects that are currently being carried out in England and Holland and produce a design case study on a live site in Amsterdam

The new entrance area renovation was completed for the opening of the schools new ground floor “before school “club. It was opened officially in May by the local counsellor Lambriex.

We recently presented the outline design of the new O.G. Heldringschool to the current teaching staff. We were able to get some useful and interesting feedback. A large scale 3 dimensional model gave a clear idea of some of the special relationships between important parts of the school programme.
